High-voltage engineering specialist, Ventus Energy, has expanded the capacity of its Belfast-based control room by 1GW, taking its total energy management capabilities to more than 4.2GW within its first year of operations.

This milestone was achieved following the adoption of Elecsys, a specialist software platform developed by Elecsys Technologies. The solution has significantly enhanced real-time operations and asset management across Ventus Energy’s control infrastructure, enabling the company to expand its portfolio to include the management of up to 33 wind farms.

Since its launch in early 2024, the Ventus control room has delivered 24/7 system surveillance and electrical safety coordination across a mix of onshore and offshore wind, battery energy storage, solar and floating renewable projects.

The implementation of Elecsys software has allowed Ventus to scale operations without increasing personnel, unlocking efficiencies and providing greater insight into network performance. The platform’s capabilities in automation and data intelligence have been pivotal to supporting rapid portfolio growth and maintaining high standards of safety and reliability.

Colin Bowman, control centre manager at Ventus Energy, commented: “Following the rollout of Elecsys, our team has safely delivered more than 28,000 switching instructions and managed close to 2,000 network outage programmes across nearly 400 substations.

“It provides us with deeper operational insights and governance over our networks. On a typical day, we’re executing upwards of 50 switching instructions and coordinating multiple approvals. This activity demands precision, consistency and absolute control.

“Elecsys has transformed how we manage complexity at scale, enabling smarter workflows and reinforcing the safety, resilience and responsiveness of our operations.”

Ryan Murphy, CEO of Elecsys Technologies, added: “Since Ventus Energy implemented our platform, the team has seen measurable improvements, including reduced downtime and increased automation of critical processes.

“Elecsys was designed to provide real-time insights and seamless coordination across complex energy networks, helping operators enhance both performance and safety. This partnership is a strong example of how digital transformation is reshaping high-voltage operations at scale.”

Launched in 2023, Elecsys has rapidly become a trusted tool for operators across the energy sector, enabling modern high-voltage network management with intelligent automation, enhanced safety governance and actionable network analytics.

By installing the software, Ventus Energy continues to drive innovation in high-voltage services, optimising operations, maintenance and electrical safety management.
