High voltage electrical engineering specialist, Ventus Energy, has strengthened its senior management team with the promotion of Alastair Symington to divisional head of asset management and Matt Holden to head of operations and maintenance.
In his new role, Alastair will lead and develop Ventus Energy’s asset management function across operations and maintenance (O&M), commissioning and technical support.

His priorities include driving high-quality delivery, strengthening client relationships and supporting business growth across the UK and international markets. He will also help shape the expansion of Ventus Energy's capabilities, including the development of Ventus Energy's existing 24/7 control room capability into a broader operational control centre model supporting wind farms and associated infrastructure.
Bringing more than 14 years of experience across the energy and renewables sector, including time spent with a distribution network operator (DNO) and as a senior authorised person (SAP), Alastair joined Ventus Energy in March 2022 as a lead technician. He has since progressed through several positions, including O&M engineer and most recently, head of operations and maintenance.
Alastair said: “My previous role gave me full accountability for delivery, team performance and client relationships in a fast-paced environment. Having come through hands-on and site-based positions, I understand what good delivery looks like on the ground, which helps me make practical decisions and build structures that genuinely support our teams.
“By being involved from commissioning through to long-term asset management, we can provide continuity, reduce risk and improve overall efficiency, while also developing our control room capability to deliver greater visibility, faster response and more coordinated asset management.”
Following Alastair’s progression, Matt Holden has been promoted to head of operations and maintenance, where he will lead the O&M function and be responsible for ensuring delivery is safe, consistent and aligned with commercial targets.

In the short term, he will continue to make sure delivery remains consistent, safety standards stay high and the team is well supported. Longer term, he will focus on further developing Ventus Energy’s O&M offering so it remains fully aligned with evolving industry demand, including across wind, BESS and wider high voltage infrastructure.
Matt brings more than eight years of experience in the renewable energy sector, with a strong focus on high voltage O&M across both offshore and onshore wind. Since joining Ventus Energy more than three years ago, he has progressed from O&M engineer, building extensive experience in asset delivery, HV safety and team performance.
As a 132kV SAP, Matt has played a key role in supporting safe and effective work across multiple wind farm assets. He has particular expertise in safety from the system, outage planning, HV maintenance and fault response.
Lee Glendening, managing director of Ventus Energy, said: “Alastair and Matt have both played an important role in Ventus Energy and these promotions reflect the experience and leadership they bring to the business.
“As we continue to grow, both appointments strengthen our ability to deliver safe, high-quality support across the lifecycle of renewable energy assets, while building the capability needed for long-term success.”
Ventus Energy specialises in a range of high-voltage services, including testing and termination, fault and emergency response, operations and maintenance, electrical safety management and coordination, and is a preferred supplier for both onshore and subsea cable repair.
