Ventus Energy delivered a full turnkey scope of cable pull-in, HV termination and testing services for a subsea cable connecting an offshore wind farm substation to a gas platform, taking the project from post-load-out testing through to a fully energised and authorised connection.
Project overview
The project involved the installation of a single 3-core, 33kV subsea cable, approximately 10km in length, connecting an offshore wind farm’s offshore substation to a gas platform.
Ventus Energy was engaged to deliver the full scope of pull-in, termination and testing works.
Delivering the project brought two main challenges:
Working with two different end clients, each with a different level of readiness and approach to the project, required Ventus to be adaptable with its methodology throughout the works
Frequent weather delays extended the project timeline, which in turn created personnel challenges as a result of European working-time legislation
Ventus deployed a team to deliver the full scope of HV cable work and fibre optic installation. The team:
Completed post-load-out testing before pre-rigging both platforms, ensuring all existing assets were protected ahead of the pull-in
Pulled in both ends of the 33kV cable, followed by post-pull-in testing to confirm cable integrity
Stripped, routed and cleated the three cable cores, installing inline joints above the hang-off before terminating each core at the switchgear
Installed fibre cable to the fibre panel and routed a new line through to the control room, with all connections tested against the project’s ITP
Tested all three power cores and compiled a complete As-Built documentation pack, alongside additional testing to support the client’s separate cable burial works
The cable was successfully pulled in, terminated and tested end-to-end, with all fibre and power connections verified and a full As-Built pack delivered to support the handover process.
The completed works enabled the relevant authorities to authorise the cable for service, and it was energised and confirmed to be operational.
“This project required our expert team to collaborate with two end clients and a shifting weather-driven programme of work, without losing sight of the detail. Delivering the full scope of pull-in, HV termination and testing is an ideal example of the specialist capability Ventus offers on complex offshore cable projects.”

Project Manager
“I just wanted to inform you that the cable has been energised and is currently operational. After a successful operational test and a check on the As-Built documentation, all authorities authorized the utilization of the cable. One more thank you for your effort and patience shown during the preparation and execution of the cable installation scope.”
